It has recently been found that the Tet family of proteins can convert 5-hmC to 5-Formylcytosine (5-fC) and 5-Carboxylcystosine (5-caC).
Active Motif, working with scientists from the lab of Yi Zhang at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have developed antibodies specific to 5-Formylcytosine and 5-Carboxylcytosine to study their occurrence in vivo. You can read more about their findings in the December 2011 issue of Nature Cell Research
